Yanggu Dongzhang Site Project Held Public Archaeological Activity

In order to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of discussions and important instructions on archaeological work, and to do a good job in promoting, popularizing, and transforming archaeological achievements, on October 19th, our Yanggu Dongzhang Site Project held a public archaeological activity. More than 70 teachers and students from the School of History, Culture, and Tourism of Liaocheng University came to the excavation site for learning and practical activities.

Project leader Wu Zhigang led students to visit the construction site and vividly demonstrated the evolution of houses from simple dwellings to complex architectural complexes through explanations of the geological accumulation and site staging. They analyzed the different lifestyles presented in residential, agricultural, and public activity areas, providing students with a more intuitive understanding of the relationship between relics and the overall situation of the site.

In the little lesson at the archaeological site, the speaker introduced the students to the archaeological workflow, from archaeological tools and methods to the standards and requirements of archaeological exploration, as well as the specific steps of archaeological excavation and the writing of archaeological reports, allowing students to intuitively experience every aspect of archaeological work.

Subsequently, the students walked into the cultural relics warehouse on the construction site to learn about various unearthed artifacts, coin rubbings, and so on. After the visit, under the guidance of the staff, the students picked up their shovels and experienced practical operations such as scraping and probing holes.

Through this public archaeological activity, not only can students experience archaeology and perceive history in a diverse range of activities, but it also strengthens the display and utilization of archaeological achievements, bringing cultural relics to life, telling the story of our Qilu Culture, and effectively promoting the high quality development of Shandong archaeology.
