Serbian Scholars Visit the Institute for Academic Exchange
On the morning of July 30, a delegation of Serbian archaeological scholars paid an academic visit to our Institute. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges covering field archaeological practice, scientific archaeology and other key topics. Kong Shengli, Full-time Deputy Secretary (presiding over daily work), along with Zhu Chao and Dong Wenbin (Deputy Directors of the Institute), together with heads of relevant departments, attended the meeting.
During the forum, Secretary Kong Shengli extended a warm welcome to the Serbian scholars. He noted that China and Serbia boast time-honored histories and distinctive civilizations, with strong complementarity and broad cooperation prospects in archaeological research. He expressed the hope that both sides could leverage their respective academic strengths to carry out targeted pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure archaeology and scientific archaeology. The two sides should break down geographical and academic barriers, actively explore long-term and regular cooperation frameworks for proactive archaeological excavation projects, and establish joint research mechanisms. Supported by specific projects, both parties will advance the implementation and effective delivery of archaeological prospecting projects for infrastructure construction, so as to deepen bilateral academic exchanges and achieve fruitful outcomes.
Prior to the forum, the Serbian scholars visited our Institute’s scientific archaeology laboratory, cultural relic conservation and restoration room, and cultural relic warehouse. They spoke highly of the Institute’s fruitful achievements in cultural heritage conservation, scientific and technological innovation in archaeology, and field archaeological research. Drawing on on-site observations from the visit, the two sides held in-depth discussions on potential areas for cooperation. The scholars stated that China and Serbia are home to unique prehistoric civilizations with profound historical ties, and share high research compatibility and extensive cooperation potential in prehistoric archaeology and Bronze Age archaeology. They looked forward to building a regular academic communication bridge with our Institute to deepen two-way academic exchanges and joint research. Meanwhile, the scholars fully recognized our Institute’s mature experience in field archaeological practice, infrastructure archaeology and the integrated application of multidisciplinary scientific archaeology, and expressed great anticipation for the implementation of subsequent bilateral cooperation projects.
This exchange has further broadened our Institute’s channels for international academic cooperation in archaeology and built a communication bridge with archaeological institutions in Serbia. Going forward, the Institute will follow up on the cooperation intentions reached at the forum, refine cooperation plans, and actively promote the implementation of exchange programs. It will continue to deepen academic interactions between Chinese and foreign archaeologists and strive for new progress in research on the origins and development of diverse civilizations.
